El Presidente Cocktail
El Presidente
by The Chef
Serves: 1

Notes:First prepared in honor of Mario García Menocal

Directions:
El Presidente is a Cuban cocktail made with a combination of rum, vermouth, curaçao, and grenadine. In order to prepare it, all ingredients are stirred with ice, then strained into a cocktail glass. The cocktail can be garnished with an orange twist, if desired.

It is believed that this cocktail was first prepared in honor of Mario García Menocal, who was the president of Cuba from 1913 to 1921. El Presidente was first described in 1919 in the New York Evening Telegram.

Stir ingredients well with cracked ice and strain into a chilled glass. Twist a swatch of thinly cut orange peel over the top and drop in or discard. Garnish, if desired, with a cherry.

Tools: barspoon, mixing glass, strainer

  1½ oz. rich white rum
1½ oz. Vermouth Blanc (Martini & Rossi or Cinzano Bianco)
